Day 4

Step 4:

Comfort

After you've watched your video, scroll to the bottom of the page for an optional, free bonus practice!

How does it feel when someone hugs you?

Ahhh yes hugs are the best, aren't they? They feel good because they activate our parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous system - helping us to feel calm, safe and relaxed.

Step 4 is all about COMFORTING ourselves... Comforting our bodies with kind gestures creates a nurturing sanctuary that fosters a sense of safety, allowing us to soothe both our bodies and minds.

According to Steven Porges' Polyvagal Theory, a feeling of safety is crucial for our well-being, and when we engage in gentle and caring physical touch, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system's soothing response. This response promotes relaxation, lowers heart rate, and reduces cortisol levels, leading to a profound sense of calmness.

+ calmer body and mind = a quieter inner critic!
