Day 5
Step 5:
Befriending

After you've watched your video, scroll to the bottom of the page for an optional, free bonus practice!

Forgiveness can be hard, cant it? Especially if that someone has hurt you. But forgiveness is the potent and healing tool that your inner critic needs to keep quiet.
Your fifth and final step is to forgive and befriend your inner critic.
In Day 5, drawing from the wisdom of "Parts work," a powerful therapeutic technique, we learn how to approach our inner critic as a part of ourselves that has been hurt or frightened in the past.
As Dick Schwartz of Internal Family Systems (IFS) puts it, "We have no bad parts. We only have parts that are burdened with pain." By recognising that our inner critic is a part that once felt scared, we can create a safe space for it to be heard and understood. Welcoming the inner critic back into the fold of our being, we initiate a process of reintegration, where we cease to fight against ourselves. Instead, we cultivate a gentle inner relationship, where the loving part of us can extend warmth and empathy to the hurting parts. In Step 5 we do this with just three powerful words.
This transformative journey of self-compassion and inner healing allows us to mend the fractures within ourselves, fostering a sense of wholeness and harmony. Through this reintegration, we liberate ourselves from the grip of self-criticism, creating a sanctuary of love and acceptance within.
